How has technology has developed over the years?
Over time, technology has changed to allow people to communicate more quickly and efficiently; it has become the ultimate mode of convenience for people who wish to perform tasks that would have taken a long time in the past. Technology has gone from a means to make difficult tasks easier to a means for making easy tasks easier.
How can technology aid a child's learning?
With the use of technology in the classroom this opens up a wide variety for the children as they can access much wider information to help grow the knowledge and understanding even more by searching in the Internet. This also enables the children to share their own view, opinions and knowledge with a much larger group. However there are some downfalls to ICT as some children are not aware of the dangers that can happen, there is much more accessibility to social media sites nowadays, this therefore increases the likelihood of children under the required age to create profiles. Even though Primary school children are not technically meant to join sites such as Facebook until the age of 13 there is no way of stopping them from joining so as a teacher I believe it is our responsibility to make sure that if they are using social media sites that they use them responsibly and are also made aware of E-safety.
ICT in the classroom can also be used to make learning more entertaining for the children, as educational games can be developed for use on tablets, PC's etc. If the games are available on tablets then the children are encouraged to download the application on any devices at home to further their learning even when out of the classroom setting. Educational applications can also be used as a way of informally assessing how each child is doing in certain subjects, as certain games may have a scoring system which would allow the teacher to then see which children fully understand (as they score a high score) or the children who may need a little extra help in certain areas.
